According to The Day Rob Simmons is running TV ads saying he is “still on the ballot” and will spend as much as $350,000 on the campaign.

Rob Simmons’ U.S. Senate candidacy might not be so over after all.
The former Republican congressman announced Wednesday that he will begin running a television ad “in the nature of a public service announcement” that urges primary voters to consider small business, national security and trust when choosing among Simmons, Peter Schiff and Linda McMahon in the Aug. 10 primary. Simmons announced he would cease campaigning but remain on the ballot earlier this year, after McMahon defeated him for the party’s endorsement at the Republican convention.
Since then, Simmons has publicly toyed with the notion of resuming his candidacy, but the TV ad would be the boldest move yet toward reviving a campaign. A spokesman for Simmons, however, said that Simmons has not hired new staff and doesn’t planned to resume “proactive campaigning,” but will attend events when he is invited.
Simmons is due to appear on WNPR radio’s Where We Live on Aug. 3, as part of its “Where We Vote” series.
The Simmons ad, which is still being edited, will run on cable and broadcast TV statewide, beginning later this week. A spokesman for Cashman and Katz, the public relations agency that produced the ad and is handling Simmons’ media buy, said the campaign would spend about $350,000 on the spot.
In a statement, a spokesman for McMahon scoffed at Simmons’ wavering on whether or not he would resume his campaign.
“For eight months, Rob Simmons promised Connecticut Republicans that he would not primary if he lost the convention,” said the spokesman, Ed Patru. “He lost the convention, then immediately announced he would primary. Hours later, he dismissed his staff and announced he wouldn’t primary. Over the past two months, he’s been engaged in a very strange and erratic effort to reconcile his promise not to run with his desire to return to Washington. Today, we are as confused as everyone else.”
The McMahon campaign will be prepared if Simmons launches a full-scale campaign, Patru said, adding, “until that happens, following Rob Simmons’ on-again, off-again campaign is a little like trying to keep up with an Abbott and Costello routine…Who’s on first?”

I thought he gave up so I put a Linda sticker on my car. I was still going to vote for him but I thought he put us all in a strange spot what with suspending.
Now that it is un-suspended the Linda sticker is peeled off and I will put Simmons for senate one just as soon as I can get my hands on one.

8Its embarrassing living in CT. We have a candidate who has succeeded in business, and has been warning of this economic collapse. This guys father is in jail as a TAX PROTESTOR, because the federal income tax is illegal. WHAT IS MORE AMERICAN THAN FIGHTING IMMORAL TAXES?
And yet people up here are thinking that a woman who is spending $50 million of her own money to get elected to the senate, is going to care about anything other than trying to make the McMahon name a superpower in America.
Now Simmons announces he’s back. He was already in office, obviously didnt do a good enough job, and now wants back in. He still thinks we are going to win the ‘war on terrorism’, so he’ll keep wasting our money.
Whats even worse is that Connecticut will probably go with Richard Blumenthal (if linda or rob simmons is elected), god save us.
Wake UP PEOPLE!!! I dont agree with everything Peter Schiff beleives in (mainly only on Afghanistan), but he is by faaaaaaaaaaaar a better candidate than either linda or rob simmons.

All this time I thought Article 1 Section 8 enumerated the powers of Congress. While some of the powers have to do with commerce, certainly not ALL nor even most for that matter give the Congress power as you state.
How about these Scott, do they look familiar?

13as a freshman senator? His background will only be of benefit if he gets a cherry appointment in one of the finance committees. Then he must work with the rest of the committee. Peter is best suited for an executive position. It is an easy trap to think someone’s message will make them a good candidate but examining one skill sets is more important to defining a qualified candidate.
Simmon’s has no skill set except to spend money… he proved that during his last stint in Congress. Do you really think he has changed??? If you do I have some real nice property along the gulf coast to sell you… pay no attention to the oil slime… it really is a nice piece.

A skills SET implies a number of skills or at least a set. I think Schiff is a one trick pony and the trick just isn’t that good.

Schiff’s struggling campaign looks to one last online ‘money bomb’

Just five weeks after petitioning his way onto the Republican U.S. Senate primary ballot, Peter Schiff says he is unlikely to continue propping up his struggling campaign with his own money.
His last gasp as a U.S. Senate candidate likely will come this week with an online plea for money to air commercials.
“If I can’t raise the money, I have to decide if I want to pay for it myself,” Schiff said. “At this point, my answer would be no. I’m already into this thing for $700,000. I gotta get more support from people.”
Rob however has a true resume:
Rob’s public service career began when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1965 as a Private, and spent 19 months in Vietnam where he earned two Bronze Star Medals. Rob continued his military service in the U.S. Army Reserve as a Military Intelligence Officer, retiring as a Colonel in 2003 with over 37 years of active and reserve service.
He is past commander of the 434th Military Intelligence (MI) Detachment New Haven, CT, which won the Reserve Officers Association’s Outstanding Small Unit Award in 1996. In 1998, Rob was recognized by for his contributions to the Military Intelligence Corps with the Knowlton Award for “Integrity, Moral Character, Professional Competence and Selflessness.”
Following his active duty service in the Army, Rob joined the Central Intelligence Agency, working as an Operations Officer for a decade, including five years on assignment overseas in East Asia where he participated in difficult and dangerous missions to protect America’s national security.
Upon his return from East Asia, Rob left the CIA to join the staff of Senator John H. Chafee (R-Rhode Island) where he was Legislative Assistant for Military, Foreign and Veterans Affairs.
In 1981, he was assigned as a staff member to the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence and soon thereafter was appointed by Chairman Barry Goldwater (R-Arizona) to serve as Staff Director of the full committee. Rob worked with the committee and the Reagan Administration on some of the most important national security challenges of the Cold War. CIA Director Casey presented him with the Agency Seal Medallion – its highest civilian award – in 1985.
That year, Rob returned to his hometown of Stonington, Connecticut where he chaired the Police Commission, and taught courses on government at both Yale College and the University of Connecticut.
In 1991, Rob was elected by the people of Stonington and North Stonington, and the villages of Mystic, Old Mystic and Pawcatuck to represent them in the Connecticut General Assembly. In his first term, Rob opposed the imposition of a state income tax, fought for fiscal responsibility and took a lead role on transportation issues. Rob developed a reputation as a strong advocate for his constituents. As a result, he won reelection four times.
Troubled that entrenched 10-term 2nd District incumbent Congressman Sam Gejdenson had lost touch with his constituents, Rob challenged him in 2000 in a campaign many said a Republican could not win. In that race, Rob came back from a double-digit deficit to defeat Gejdenson in a district where Democrats outnumbered Republicans by 34,000 voters. He was the first Republican in 50 years to win three terms in the district.
In Congress, Rob served on the Armed Services, Transportation, Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security Committees. Rep. Simmons also served as the Chairman of the Homeland Security Intelligence and Veterans’ Health Subcommittees.
Rob continued to fight for fiscal responsibility and low taxes, voting for the 2001 and 2003 federal income tax cuts, increasing the child tax credit, and eliminating the marriage penalty and death tax. Rob also authored the “Simplify Tax Filing For Seniors Act,” requiring the IRS to offer a simplified tax form for seniors, and supported legislation to repeal the 1993 tax on Social Security benefits.
While in Congress, Rob fought to make sure his fellow veterans received the benefits they were promised. He helped pass the historic “concurrent receipt” legislation that allows military retirees to collect their military retirement and the disability benefits to which they are entitled, and secured critical funding for new construction at the Veterans Home in Rocky Hill, Connecticut.
Rob’s landmark accomplishment was working with Team Connecticut to save the Groton Submarine Base when it was targeted for complete closure by the Defense Base Realignment and Closure Commission. Rob led the fight to keep the base operating, saving 31,000 Connecticut jobs and a critical national security asset in the “Submarine Capital of the World.”
After three terms in Congress, Rob was appointed by Governor M. Jodi Rell as Connecticut’s first Business Advocate. During his two year term, Rob visited over 400 local small businesses to listen to employers and workers, and help them address the challenges facing small businesses in Connecticut.
Rob Simmons is a 1965 graduate of Haverford College, PA, where he won six varsity letters and was captain of the cross-country and track teams. He earned a Master in Public Administration degree from Harvard University’s Kennedy School of Government in 1979, where he was a Littauer Fellow.
Rob and his wife, Heidi, have been married for 35 years. She is a public school teacher at the Regional Multicultural Magnet School in New London, CT, specializing in early childhood education and literacy.
Rob and Heidi are blessed with a daughter, Jane, who is a graduate of Trinity College in Hartford and lives in New York City; and a son, Robert, who is a graduate of Providence College and lives in Boston.
Rob and Heidi live with their three dogs — Bailey, Lucy and Grigio — in Stonington, CT.

Easily $200 billion can be cut right out of the budget….. Start right at the military, education, welfare and medicare. $50 billion each. There is more waste then that in each branch… but a nice cut to start will help. Rob won’t cut… he will vote for more military spending we don’t need.

The primary that you must be speaking of is not an election. It determines who runs on the Republican line on the ballot. My estimate is that Schiff won’t get more than 10% of the vote. With Schiff’s skills, he should make that worth about 2%.
