Endorsement – Putting my nickel down on Daria Novak
While I only speak for myself, I’ve debated long and hard about my vote for Republican Candidate for Congress. I’ll be honest, there are two highly qualified persons running for a very ungrateful position. Both want what is best for our nation, our state, and our big slice of the state. Doug Dubitsky and Daria Novak are both good people. Both are hard working family people. Both know the issues and will serve us well in Washington. While I won’t have a hard time voting in November, making this decision was difficult.
Doug brings lawyer’s skills, hard working farmer’s ingenuity, and experience.
Daria brings small business ingenuity, real reform mentality, and experience.
Neither served in the military like I did. Both have faced challenges in life. Both have families. Both have a dedicated staff that really believe in them. Either would be a credit to our part of the state, and would serve our country well.
God willing, one of these two will be our next Representative from the 2nd District in Connecticut.
That being said, this is a primary, and while I like both candidates, I’m putting my nickel down.
Of two great Eastern Connecticut citizens working to gain the Republican nomination for Congress , I select Daria Novak.

The winner receives an additional campaign donation of $300.00 from me and my continued support.
Good luck to you both…Lord knows Courtney needs to go.

I wish my district had such good candidates. After some research, i think you to have made the right decision.
1Novak has no credibility…
This from the Dubitsky Camp….
Dubitsky Questions Novak’s Endorsement Claim
Doug Dubitsky, Republican candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District said today that one of his GOP rivals for the seat is misusing former President Ronald Reagan’s name in an effort to mislead voters.
In campaign literature, Daria Novak claims to have an endorsement from the beloved Republican president, who passed away in 2004. “Ms. Novak is attempting to exploit a form letter from years ago, and is now portraying it as an endorsement of her campaign to represent the people of the 2nd District,” said Dubitsky. “This is ridiculous. A form letter that thousands of federal employees likely received at some point during the 1980s certainly does not show that Ronald Reagan supports her campaign.”
Ms. Novak’s improper exploitation of the decades-old form letter demonstrates a current lack of judgment. To say she has an ‘endorsement’ from President Reagan is an obvious attempt to deceive voters into believing Ronald Reagan endorsed her candidacy in this election. “Her misrepresentation of Ronald Reagan’s words, unfortunately, says more about Ms. Novak than does anything in the letter itself. It raises questions about her credibility – questions Joe Courtney would surely exploit against her. If Ms. Novak would misuse President Reagan’s name, the voters of this district should ask what else she would do to get elected to Congress, and what she would do to stay there.”
Dubitsky and Novak are two of the candidates facing off in the August 10th Republican primary to challenge Democrat Joe Courtney in the November general election. Dubitsky has garnered wide support with his consistent message of restoring limited constitutional government, and fighting against federal deficits, debt, bail-outs, handouts and takeovers.
“The voters of the 2nd District are not stupid. They will see through Ms. Novak’s deception. They will evaluate each candidate on his or her ideas and their capability to put those ideas into action. Campaign gimmicks and deceptions won’t fool the people of this District. I can defeat Joe Courtney in November. My ideas stand up to real-world scrutiny; my blue collar background, legislative experience, and legal skills speak to my ability to get the job done,” said Dubitsky.

3Dubitsky is losing badly to Novak so he is going negative. He came in third in Janet’s poll and on the WXLM online poll he received 0%. End of story for Doug.
His only choice is to try to discredit the frontrunner since he is trailing so far behind, has not been able to raise money, and doesn’t have more than a small handful of volunteers.
Novak is a leader of the highest caliber and the real deal. Credibility – here are the facts. Novak is listed in the “Plum Book” of Presidential appointees in the Reagan Administration.
She held a Top Secret clearance – Fact. She has several very personal letters from a number of historic figures thanking her for her service to the country. Doug once again – zero.
Novak spent the last 20 plus years in the private sector founding a successful small business and teaching national security policy and other courses at UConn and ECSU. That’s a fact.
Before that, at the beginning of her career, she worked in the State Department and headed many Task Force Operations directly reporting to five Secretaries of State over the years. A fact one can check.
Over her 10 year career at the State Dept from 1979-89, Novak received 2 Meritorious Honor Awards from 2 different Secretaries of State for her leadership in resolving international crises. Fact you can check.
She also received a Superior Honor Award from the Asst. Secretary of State for “saving American lives….” this is the highest civliian award given by the US Department of State. These are facts that can be checked. Doug once again – zero.
Dubitsky’s lame attempt to discredit Novak shows his lack of character and desperation. Fact – at age 19 Novak was chosen to be a delegate to the Republican National Convention in Kansas City and worked for Ronald Reagan.
Fact – Novak served as Vice Chairman of Virginia College Republicans, President of her college club, and on an advisory board to the president of her college. This woman has a history of leadership and service to the people but doesn’t brag about all she has accomplished.
In 1989 she left Washington for the private sector and eventually started her own small successful business. Novak understands how hard it is for small companies to remain in CT.
Fact – she served as a volunteer firefighter and EMT, and has raised money to buy musical instruments for our wounded vets who are in hospitals here and in the Middle East.
I checked and the fact is that Dubitsky has NEVER asked Novak to see the original Reagan letter, or the package that came with it. If he had, he would know it is a very personal letter signed by the President of the United States himself and that Novak retained this letter along with others that were personally addressed to her at the State Dept. for her leadership and service from several historic figures. Once again – Doug is a big zero.
Novak is fighting Joe Courtney and staying out of the mud-slinging of the other camps. She won’t allow her volunteers to sling mud either. She has a zero tolerance policy for it. I would be very surprised to see her bother to answer Doug. She is above that from everything I can tell. Character assassination, on the other hand, is exactly what I would expect from a Hartford trial lawyer. Doug’s a zero again.
Novak is the ONLY candidate that can beat Joe Courtney this fall.
Novak has a large and strong team in place, an incredible number of supporters, and a plan that goes after Courtney on the issues. Fact.
She won the official endorsement of the Republican Party at the State Convention. Fact.
Over the last year and a half I have seen her campaign grow and mature. She is the ONLY Republican running with an in-depth knowledge of the critical issues of the day and the experience to make the changes needed in Washington. Janet also is a lightweight like Doug without leadership experience or any indepth understanding of the issues.
Fact – Doug himself admitted his “legislative” experience consists of a student council position in school! Talk about misrepresentation! Get serious guys – these are critical times and we need to elect someone who is a proven leader who listens to the people. Doug remains a zero.
Why wasn’t Doug out there over the last few years involved with any groups trying to stop trial lawyers from collecting the huge and excessive fees that helped raise the cost of our healthcare. Why? Because he was working for a large law firm and part of the problem, not the solution.
He is correct when he says the voters of the 2nd District are not stupid. That’s why we’re supporting Novak.
I for one am tired of the endless personal attacks on our future Congresswoman. Doug is just providing more of the same old garbage we are trying to get rid of this year. Novak is refreshing. We need her experience, intelligence, integrity, leadership, and the vision that she possesses to help get us out of the quagmire we’re in now. I hope she reads this so she knows we see through her challengers and are strongly backing her.
4We take exception to Tom’s post on this blog concerning Daria Novak’s letter from Ronald Reagan. This is a personal attack on Daria’s integrity and that’s always a sign of desperation during a political campaign. Doug Dubitsky has done little campaigning and while he uses the proper conservative sound bites, he never goes into depth offering any solutions to the problems our country has. Problems that have been magnified by the Democrats a hundred fold. He’s also a lawyer. Congress is rife with two things: lawyers who don’t understand the economy and business, and career politicians. Both groups have run this country into the ground.
Back to Daria Novak. Ms. Novak worked for the Reagan state department in the 1980’s. Why shouldn’t she use the letter Reagan sent her in thanks for her service and contributions on her campaign web site? This goes to the heart of who she is: a principled, LIFELONG Conservative and Republican, who has the core values every Republican SHOULD stand for. This letter is indeed an endorsement from one of our nation’s greatest presidents and there is no misrepresentation here, whatsoever. Why does the Dubitsky campaign feel the need to cast doubt or aspersions on Daria Novak? Desperation two weeks before the primary. Stop throwing stones if you live in a glass house, Doug. Stick to the issues, will you?
5I am not going to get into the he said/ she said. There are very subtle diffrences between these two qualified candidates. A close examination f the various debates will best serve to identify who should get our nod.
Who can beat Courtney is preeminent in my mind. This district is made up of mainly. unaffiliated voters. More so than any other in CT. I am basing my decision in that fact in conjunction with these positions outlined in the debates. I an also looking for a candidate who can withstand the street fight the general election will inevitably turn into.
There will be no room for glass jaws come August 11th.
6First,I dont care what package the Reagan letter came from.
Many political appointees got such a package after they served President Reagan.
Novak has no business using such a letter in a POLITICAL piece. It shows she has no principles.
James Webb, who ran for the US Senate in 2006, was chastized by Nancy Regan during that election for using President Reagan’s likeness in a TV Spot.
Nancy Reagan asked Webb to cease and decist.
It is completely disrespectful of the President that Novak served to use his words in a political handout.
Second, Peckinpaugh’s “poll” was rigged. Done by polling firm with ZERO national standing.
Ed Munster even admitted last night that the poll was rigged at the Brooklyn RTC Meeting.
Doug Dubitsky has a great chance on August 10th.
7C.D. & Ed….
Here is what happened to James Webb in 2006 when he used President Reagan’s likeness in a TD ad.
Daria Novak is just as guilty
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/09/08/AR2006090801720.html
8I agree with Paul. Let’s see what they got before we turn the little heel nipping poodles on either candidate! Peckinpaugh quit in my opinion. Munster told her not to debate I’ll bet! Why because she can’t tell you whats happening and how she plans to fix it. Let her debate then I’ll sick that poodle off her!
If I was daria I would tout the letter and any other commendation I received. Let the voters decide and Doug whining about a campaign flier is just BULLSHIT! Tell me what ya got Doug, not how bad ur opponent “may”be.
Jesus Christ itsa flier!
9Correction
I’ll pull(not sick) the poodle off her.
10John D….
What Doug Dubitsky’s got is character and integrity.
All Daria Novak has are questionable principles.
11Well I made up my mind a long time ago when I saw her on YouTube. I only held back because I thought Simmons might switch races. With Simmons set on the Senate, I am with Daria.
I have not seen either of her two opponents anywhere. I have seen Daria on the other hand EVERYWHERE. She is a like a bee going from flower to flower all over the district. Now the money is starting to come in.
It is really starting to come together for her. Lets get this show on the road!
Vote Daria!
12Care to show us what are her questionable principles? And does Daria lack character and integrity? Please share that with us Tom.
13Tom, obviously, you are desperate. Your candidate, Doug, owns one cow and pretends to be a farmer to court the farm vote in the NE part of the District. He wears a plaid shirt and sits on a tractor in the photo he chose for his literature!
He introduces himself as a beef farmer but isn’t sure what kind of beef he has on his place. Reality check – he is a full-time trial attorney in Hartford and before that New York. Who lacks integrity? Who is trying to deceive?
Doug left the town he lived in and refused to resign his position on that town’s board. They had to threaten and go after him to make him resign.
Then he didn’t even register to vote in Chaplin for many, many, many years until he got the idea to run as a Republican candidate for US Congress. He still was willing to trash the Republican Party and did so at the Franco-American Club this spring where he said the only reason he agreed to consider becoming a Republican is because the party changed and he wanted to run for office.
We need to stick on the issues in 2010 and stop the accusations. Doug went negative and now he is stuck in negative mode. First to go negative loses the election.
These newbie Republicans — Dubitsky and Peckinpaugh — lack what it takes. This is a critical year for us in CT and I want a candidate who has the experience, integrity and depth to get the job done. Novak is the only one who can provide it.
She lets “stuff” like this slide off her back and doesn’t climb into the muddy trenches with the likes of Peckinpaugh or Dubitsky. She stays on message and is not letting anything slow down in her race to November.
Doug and his campaign manager have tried for months to spread false rumors. Daria’s response… she takes the high road. That takes real strength of character unlike anything I have seen from any of the other Congressional candidates. Watch her speak on her web site at http://www.novakforcongress.com and see for yourself. You’ll end up another Daria supporter. They are all over the place!
14Ed….
The people of this district are desperate for honesty, integrity and leadership from their next Congressman.
Daria Novak showed questionable principles when she hands out political flyers around the district that imply an endorsement from Ronald Reagan.
Doing so is distasteful and dishonors him.
15EdinCT you’re spouting, but don’t know what you’re taliking about. Daria and Janet both went negative first! Remember them both disparaging Doug on the radio because hes a lawyer. Daria has been “going negative” since the convention, Calling Doug a rino and saying he was not really a farmer. She and her people like you have been spreading all kinds of trash. That he is a tree-hugger because he supports preserving farmland. Thats crap. If the first to go negative looses, Daria is sunk.
Doug lived in CT for years before he was ever a lawyer. He addresses Daria’s lies about his farm on his web site. The cows come and go with the seasons. That si the kind of operation he runs.
So he was not happy with the way the party acted in the past (spending, amnisty) . Neither were a lot of good Republicans. Was Daria happy about it? Don’t YOU think the party has changed now for the better?
If you want to talk about integrity, look at all of the lawsuits that Daria has against her. Some going on right now. Foreclosure lawsuit, failure to pay her bills, failing to show up in court. Is that what we want in our member of Congress? I sure don’t. We don’t need another Charlie Rangle.
16ect-chick – Daria NEVER said Doug is a tree hugger. That is an outright lie and I challenge you to produce any evidence. You cannot.
Daria and her family have a long-term involvement with the Meigs Point Nature Center at Hammonassett State Beach Park and are involved in animal rescue. Her son has volunteered there for several years. She lives on a nature preserve and works to save open spaces.
She has NEVER made any statement on Doug’s wanting to preserve farmland. As a matter of fact, Daria wrote a Letter to the Editor that was printed in the Shoreline Times expressing her concerns over development of open space land in CT and it was published prior to her running for office. This is the type of leader she is – at the front of the issues before the rest of us figure out something is going wrong.
I have read that letter and in it she expressly talked about the terrible loss of farmland in Northern Virginia and how communities suffered with overdevelopment. She was sounding the warning here long before Doug.
She warned us in CT what could happen if we didn’t act, and like the leader she is, continues urging CT to save our land before we, too, suffer the negative impact of overdevelopment, specifically farmland!! CHECK YOUR FACTS! And, let’s get on with the campaign.
These are lies from Doug’s camp. Boy did they pick the wrong issue. Doug’s campagin manager ought to check out her facts. So far they have nothing right! Daria is on record arguing for the preservation of farmland beginning more than 9 years ago!!!
Jen Harvey, who is now Doug’s campaign manager, is on her third Congressional campaign this election cycle after having “problems” on earlier ones. She also was a campaign manager for a short stint on the failed campaign for State Comptroller for Stephanie L. Four campaigns in one election cycle. That in itself is telling – 4 campaigns and she was turned down by others when she wanted to work for them.
This is the Dubitsky camp trying to discredit a leader with integrity, the frontrunner, and our next Cognersswoman. I see Novak still isn’t getting into this squabble. She is above that because she is a statesman of the highest integrity.
MORE LIES AND TWISTS from Doug’s camp on court issues.
Daria has never had a mortgage in the state of CT and never failed to pay her mortgage when she had one in Virginia. I asked her and then did the research today. Her ex-husband lost his job like many others in CT and HE went through a loan modification. She was informed by the court of the process because she owns part of the property and the law requires notification.
Anyone can look up a name but that doesn’t tell the whole story. The mortgage was in her ex’s name, not hers, and she had no legal responsibility to pay his off his bills.
This is how Doug and Jennifer Harvey spread lies. This is old school dirty politics by a Republican State Central Committee member that really should resign at this point. Chris Healy ought to take note. Is this the face of the new Republican Party? I hope not or we are in big trouble.
Daria went through a tough divorce like many in CT. She has never denied that. She has a court order that her ex-husband is responsible for the bills about which you write.
Every penny of Novak’s campaign is accounted for. It is the pure smear tactics of a LOSER to try to compare a woman who has won the highest accolades the USG has for leadership and saving American lives and to dare to compare her to a Charlie Rangel.
Shame on Doug and his campaign. He sealed his coffin with these spurious charges. I wonder if Doug’s supporters approve of or encourage this type of slander? If not, then quit and join Daria as she takes back the state and gives us a voice in DC.
Listen to Daria on You Tube. She is positive, talks of how we can fix what is broken in our great country, and specifically what we need to do. She was trained by the best and it shows. She has vision. I have spoken with her supporters and they are in her corner without question.
Since Doug’s press release was published I am adding in a part of Daria’s brochure to show you how positive she is and the way she thinks.
She wrote:
Freedom is on the march again and I will not slow until we have arrived at our destination. I remember a time when the American dream didn’t include a Congress asking how fast to grow all-encompassing government programs or seeking new powers to grant Washington greater control over our private lives.
I remember when power resided with the people; when government was run by the people; and the US Constitution was adhered to and respected because it was our contract with the government to keep us free from tyrannical rule. It is the spirit of a free people!
I’m not a career politician. I spent most of my life building a small business, teaching, and working to keep our nation free from domestic and foreign threats. I am stepping up to run for Congress now because I am qualified. I see it as my duty and responsibility to stop what I am doing for a while, to help keep our great nation free for our children and theirs.
Nothing is more powerful than an American’s desire to remain free. We can be anything we dream with liberty in hand. Our country can achieve beyond everything we can imagine. My goal is to reign in those seeking power for themselves without considering the interests of this great nation. Congress should protect, not control us. If good men do nothing, we will soon suffocate.
But if those of us who can lead, do so with a pure heart, we will once again build upon all our forefathers have set before us and achieve greatness not yet imagined. People of Connecticut, my neighbors and family, I call upon you to join me in my bid to set America back on course starting today. Together we will tell the next generation of the day the winds of freedom swept through Congress and left only those believing in its strength standing in its halls.
Now that’s a leader and stateswoman! I strongly urge everyone to join her.
17Ed….
All I know is that I am right about Daria Novak shamelessly using a decades old form letter that she got from Ronald Reagan as an “endorsement”
Who in the hell is Jen Harvey? She is not on the ballot.
Its not wise brining in campaign staffers into this.
Looks like the Novak campaign is getting nervous.
18The Harvey/Dubitsky act reeks of desperation. This sort of “anything” goes attitude has the potential of hurting both candidates and as such serves no truly useful purpose. Speaking with several people tonight, Doug lost more on this act than Daria.
19Ray….
I don’t think Doug Dubitsky has lost anything on this “act”
Its only natural for one of Daria Novak’s supporters from Canterbury rush to her defense.
Her use of a decades old form letter from Ronald Regan as an endorsement does not put up a RED FLAG in front of you bout her principles and character?
The Ronald Reagan Foundation is ordered candidates who have used the former President’s likeness and words in the past to cease and decist.
If Novak truly loves Reagan she would get that letter off her campaign materials.
20For goodness sakes….
I did all of the reading that I could handle today. Why in the world are two good people’s friends going on the attack?
I doubt that I ever received recognition from the President during my Navy service, but if I had, I’d be very proud of that. Come to think of it, a friend of mine has a PUC (Presidential Unit Commendation). That’s pretty cool. I’d show it off if I earned that with my shipmates.
Doug’s website defended having lots of cows or few (to no) cows. Who cares? He’s a fine guy and may or may not have more cows than me.
I’ve been on the phones for several days with Repubican voters. “Nobody knows nuthin about nuthin” would be my appraisal. What, did the mob get to somebody before I called? No, rather the fact is that everybody’s pining for a small group of primary voters.
At any time, I could have gone absolutely ballistic on this website against another candidate. At 37 years old, I consider myself a liberty leaning Reagan Republican. Based upon his direction, I know better….Maybe you should too.
EVERYTHING here will come up again against the Republican candidate. Please be respectful.
21This year is one of the most critical election years we have seen in our lifetimes — especially for those of us that think this country is in danger of changing forever unless we take it back from the current “leadership” before it is too late.
I do not get involved in politics typically but this year I am because I have worked hard my entire life to follow a path that would lead me to prosperity and achievement. For the first time ever, my hard work is being taken advantage of by our government and people who believe others do the work and you get to benefit. My parents taught me this is wrong and now that is exactly what our government is doing! My parents also taught me the Golden Rule.
So here I am two weeks away from voting for someone that best represents me. I admit I am a proud Republican who grew up and gained awareness of the world around me when Ronald Reagan was President. The thing I always remember about President Reagan is his commanding presence and his stability of force when you listened to him. He always seemed to know what to say and to whom — even if I only saw him publicly. I was proud to have him represent me — he was MY President. Why? Because he spoke in a way that I could relate to him. I believed him and I believed in him.
The first time I could vote was for President Reagan and I did. Why? Because he made sense to me. Even as a young 18 year old kid. I have never forgotten him and things he said I refer back to when I want to know what is wrong now and how do we get the country back on course….or if it is even possible.
I can not imagine having the privilege and honor to have worked for him and met him. If my impression is lasting and I am just one of many out here voting, then I suspect Daria, having worked for him during a time when our Nation was so weakened and the world was in a tenuous situation (Tehran hostage situation lasted a whole year remember?) would be forever guided by his principles in an even stronger way than someone that never worked for him or ever met him. I read the letter to Daria from President Reagan. I remember the difficult times we were facing back then. I am confident President Reagan appreciated Daria’s contributions. After reading her bio and listening to her, I can see why she shared that personal letter. It was a window into what he was thinking and the role she played.
I recently took the opportunity to talk with Doug and Daria at the same event. It is clear that Doug wants this “job” and feels he is the best person to get it. What is not clear is why he thinks he should be the one to represent me. I could not find a way to connect to Doug.
It is also clear Daria wants this job and feels she is the best person to get it. What struck me was how much she knew about our government structure and the impact she could (and could not have) as a Congressman. She actually said talking to the people was her job application. I got that. We hire her. We fire her.
So folks. Let’s keep this all in perspective. When you go vote you are making a choice. Which person do you feel best represents you. Who you vote for is a reflection on YOU.
First impressions do count. Then comes substance. And ultimately, when I pull that lever, I want to know I am voting for someone who will take the high road, who will work tirelessly to make this country a better place, and who will stay in touch with me. My gut instinct, my research and my conversations with both Daria and Doug tell me that person for me is Daria.
You must decide for yourself. But please, let’s remember the Golden Rule. Voting is a privilege, honor and duty. Dirty politics is a bi-product of mankind and their insecurities.
Daria has my vote. Doug, if you read this, I have no ill-will towards you but I can relate to Daria. Obviously others can relate to you.
And from what I have seen many people in the 2nd District can relate to Daria. She has been out here in the trenches for eighteen months. Perhaps that is the greatest indicator of all…Daria recognized before many of us that we (the people) need to impact change in our government.
I have to ask myself where was Doug? We need people in DC that look way forward because these challenges we face did not all happen in the past eighteen months nor will they be fixed in the next eighteen months. But they have been dramatically accelerated under this Administration. We need to dramatically decelerate them with whomever goes to Congress.
Come November, Joe Courtney will come home and hopefully Daria will be the one to go to DC. I have no ill-will towards Joe Courtney. I just don’t believe he best represents me either. Time to fire him and hire Daria!
22Tom,
I would have said the same thing if either candidate did this. I think Daria is better qualified, and worked harder. If Daria weren’t in the campaign, I’d be supporting Doug. Who knows, if Doug hadn’t jumped at the last minute, had he run as long as Daria, spoke as much as Daria, been all over the 2nd district like Daria….. I might have supported Doug… that is unless I knew he was going to pull this sort of misguided act.
What do you think Reagan wrote the letter yesterday…. come on, I say your defense of Doug is only natural since you appear to support him.
As I said. I spoke to many people from OUTSIDE of Canterbury from all around the state and they are very critical of Doug’s misguided actions and have utterly dismissed him because of it.
That in itself is sad as I think Doug is a good guy with his heart in the right place. I just think he made a horrible mistake that may cost him any political career he might have had in the future. People don’t forget stuff like this.
23Ray….
Are you kidding?
Doug Dubitsky’s political career is hardly over!
Its not so misguided to call out a political candidate who exaggerates their endorsements.
Daria Novak better pray that her campaign does not get called out by the Reagan Foundation for using the former President’s words out of context.
Joanne Drake from the Reagan Foundation have called many candidates out for doing what Daria has done with her campaign materials.
I’ll stand by Dubitsky’s actions anytime.
24Tom,
You obviously have some kind of axe to grind. Your assertions that Daria Novak’s publication of Ronald Reagan’s letter of appreciation on her web site is a non-story. It in no way dishonors Reagan. In fact, it does the opposite. Daria Novak has never done anything other than extolling Reagan as a great president, a visionary and the right man in office at the right time. So get off your soapbox. If you want to go out and vote for Doug Dubitsky, do it. But don’t cast aspersions on a better qualified, principled Conservative candidate and say she has lied, exaggerated and dishonored anyone UNLESS YOU CAN PROVE IT. Otherwise, YOU are the one who has no credibility. Daria Novak is very focused, as she should be, on taking on Joe Courtney in November. We look forward to our new Congresswoman, who will vote in accordance with our wishes, not Nancy Pelosi’s.
25C.D.
What I am concerned about is Daria Novak’s publishing excerpts from a two decades old letter from Ronald Reagan on CAMPAIGN MATERIALS.
It implies an endorsement, which is disrespectful.
26Get over yourself, Tom. A great letter of regard that substantiates Daria Novak’s claims she is a lifelong conservative who has contributed nationally and locally, is not disrespectful in the least. All the letter does is “endorse” Ms. Novak’s service, dedication and accomplishments. It PROVES beyond a doubt that she is who she says she is.
27Novak started in a competitive position as a regular employee at the State Dept. in 1979. Quite an achievement in itself. She was not “appointed” as someone said by Carter. Don’t you enjoy how her opposition twists things. She earned Oustanding Service awards for about every year she was there from what I have seen and then received a Presidential appointment under Reagan.
Daria has NEVER claimed to have flown on Air Force One. In fact, I have heard her state she has never been on AF One at an RTC meeting. This is pure mudslinging. This comes from the same folks who tried to spread a rumor that she had an affair with the whole Secret Service and President Reagan while on Air Force One. Now that is disrespectful of one of our greatest Presidents! Get real. Daria is a conservative mothers of two who is extremely qualified, a real leader, and the only candidate who can beat reality.
There is a pattern here. Daria’s opposition makes up something — even puts out a press release on it — such as someone with vocal supporters will be making an attack on Doug in the future — and then putting out a statement on it later saying Daria did, when she never did, and they offer no proof. This is old school, dirty politics.
Daria, obviously, is the frontrunner by a wide margin. She is above all this as I have yet to see her get down and dirty into the argument. That’s how a statesman handles it and that’s who I want to be my Rep. in DC come this November.
This is a woman who received an award from our government for saving lives and now this! Come on… it is like Obama trying to say our military who served with dignity overseas are now potential terrorists. Trash talk by her opponents!
Look at the video of Daria at the Thompson Speedway. I watched it and she is speaking to a crowd of 10,000 people. Her campaign logo is on the racetrack’s web site and her signs remain hanging on the back wall of the stadium. Those are the facts.
I don’t care that Doug owns only one cow. What I do care about is that he misrepresents himself as a working farmer and tells us that is why we should vote for him. He’s a full-time attorney and it is disrespectful to hard-working farmers to claim he is anything but an attorney. Doug is saying what he thinks voters want to hear as a last ditch effort to try to win.
Daria has a high tech campaign going and is reaching out to the people in person for the last 18 months. She has a couple of headquarters open and she talks to voters openly answering all of their questions. She is holdign 14 Town Hall meetings weekly until November. Here that one Joe Courtney.
Personally, I think she is going places well beyond US Congress in the future because she is Reaganesque and has the leadership qualities needed so badly by this nation. On top of that, she is one of us. She talks to us and not down to us like Doug.
Let’s end this right now and join Daria in addressing the issues. She is out there campaigning not here. She is discussing the serious problems we face and her plan for addressing the issues, not mud-slinging. I think that says a lot.
28Ed…
Daria did state she was on Air Force One at one of the debates.
29No she did not and both the debates are available on line.
30Tom,
Ronald Reagan passed away June 5th, 2004. Today’s date is July 28th, 2010. Pretty clear to me…..
31Tom,
The someone else was going to do it eventually excuse is something we hear from our children where we respond “if they were going to jump off a bridge would you do it too”? Childish at best.
32Good One Ray
Tom as to my previous question,
JohnD says:
July 27, 2010 at 3:27 pm
Care to show us what are her questionable principles? And does Daria lack character and integrity? Please share that with us Tom.”
If you think her showing an endorsement from Reagan on a flier is a lack of integrity then you my man live on another planet!! Ya think your candidate doesn’t do it??????? News flash TOM everyone does it! AND she happens to have the document!!!! At Least she better! hehe
TOM
Ever hear of the TV series Dragnet? Jack Webb always telling the people “JUST THE FACTS MAM/SIR JUST THE FACTS”??? That’s all people want. Anything else is mute and people are sick and GD tired of innuendos. You got something factual that shows me she or anyone else for that matter shows a lack of Character Principles and/or Integrity well spit it out.
I am so tired of people like you throwing sand in the sandbox!!! Grow up and please present something factual. With all due respect of course.
33John D…
What about the “staged” contributors video Daria Novak had posted onto youtube?
Earlier this year, she “staged”receiving checks from donors at an Enfield Republican Town Committee Meeting.
She was shamed by the Enfield RTC Chairwoman to take it down.
There is one integrity example.
She willl do anything to deceive voters and get elected!
34Oh please already.
What does your candidate offer besides a willingness to tear the other candidates down? Some people can only hide their own weaknesses by attempting to make everyone around them look worse or weaker than they are. That certainly looks to be the situation in this case.
Daria will easily win the primary, all your candidate and his few supporters are succeeding in is weakening anyone’s chance against Courtney.
Trust me, Doug’s few supporters are abandoning ship in droves! In the short time he was in the race, he seemed like a pretty good guy until now. Don’t blow it now with this mess. Man up and take defeat like a gentleman. He ran a good race despite the late entry and has that to be proud of. It would be a real shame if all that work goes to waste due to sour grapes.
Let Courtney attempt to defend his record and not by working off the lies of the primary season campaign.
35Ray….
Sorry to disappoint you, but Daria Novak will not win the Primary easily.
36Anyone who thinks that the primary is going to be a cake walk for Novak or Dubitsky obviously didn’t attend the convention. Daria’s supporters may be rabid and strongly back her, but Dubitsky managed to gain quick support in a short period. Daria’s campaign has been running for a long time, but Dubitsky almost unseated her at the convention…its going to be tough to call in Primary.
Leading up to the convention, I never heard from Dubitsky’s campaign, making me wonder if that guy was for real anyway. All Novak’s campaign did is call me and slam the other campaigns…”Well, you know Peckenpaugh had that lawsuit and Daly (insert slanderous statement here) and that other guy is just a lawyer…”
The idiot didn’t know who she was talking to. I handed her her ass for her God awful statements.
Frankly…most Republicans in my area never heard of EITHER Novak or Dubitsky. While they have heard of Peckenpaugh, they didn’t think she was a Republican. This is where the ground game goes into play…its going to take someone who can be in every town in the District and convince voters, who probably *still* haven’t made up their minds yet, to vote for their candidate going into the primary…that will be the person who wins on August 11…and good luck to them if they do. They can site all the polls they want…much to my sorrow I don’t see any of the three of them taking out Courtney.
37So Tom, assuming Daria wins the primary, who will you then vote for, Novak or Courtney? I think that is the real issue here. In the end, the actions of mudslinging in the primary will only serve to keep big spending, big-government, nanny-statist Courtney in Congress.
38Dan…
This is hardly mudslinging….Question of character of Daria Novak.
39TOM
You say she decieved voters. Did she in fact recieve those checks from the donors that she promoted in Enfield or youtube?
40I question the character of the candidate slinging the mud, that’s easy and obvious. Stand up on the issues, plenty of issues out there that are high in the public eye. Let’s hear some specifics, let’s hear plans for addressing the issues.
41Daria will win the primary. What you don’t get is that she isn’t slinging mud, she is s statesman and a leader. Everything you say is innuendo or totally made up lies. I am a Republican and thought that in this critical year we would be above this, especially after wehat happened to Sarah Palin.
I have listened to Daria and she is positive in her message every time and detailed in how she will accomplish her goals. Daria is different from anyone I have met who has run for office in Connecticut in many, many years. She is doing it the right way even though she is suffering your slings and arrows. I admire her strength and don’t think I could do it.
Her character and leadership qualities are above reproach. So what does the opposition do, attack it because she is so strong and they have to find a way to pull her down. It has not worked.
She has raised more money than the other Republican candidates, she has more money on hand than the other candidates, she has more workers than the others, more headquarters, more bloggers, and more support. Get used to it. Daria is going to be our next Congesswoman from the 2nd district.
Now let’s get on with the election and stop providing fodder for the left. Daria refuses to engage in the mudslinging, so should we. Let’s follow her lead. So far she has done everything the right way and I for one am ready for a strong leader to come on the scene and fix what’s broken.
42John D…
She completely fabricated the video on youtube of people who were lined up to give her checks.
The RTC members in Enfield were used as props in that video.
Call the RTC Chairwoman there. Mary Ann Turner 860-745-4649
43Ed…
The misuse of President Reagan’s words from a decades old form letter in a POLITICAL handout is not innuendo.
It clearly shows a lack of Character.
44TOM
45Are you saying those checks were not donations to her campaign?
If one cannot debate the issues, then one needs to get out of the race…to try to discredit Novak, because she is the leader (remember Dubitsky doesn’t want to be a leader) and not be able to distinguish himself as someone who deserves our vote…falls on him.
To bad Dubitsky is stooping to this level…I think he needs to rid himself of some of his campaign workers…at least the ones who have steered him towards this level.
And I, for one, have said right from the moment he entered the race…WE do NOT need any more lawyers in DC!
46The problem with DC is that everyone wants to be a “leader”…too many chiefs…
If you are going to DC you should follow a simple sent of principals:
1. No more spending increases, period.
2. No changes in current programs that increase spending, period.
3. No more expansion of government, especially in power in the executive, period.
4. Will this legislation benefit or harm the people of the District I represent? If it benefits the people of my district, does it do so at the expense of my other guiding principles?
Don’t go to because you want to be a vague “leader”…go because you want to make a difference…and not everyone who has been a difference maker has been a leader at every moment…they were just leaders when the moment was right.
47If Daria Novak is such a leader, why did she blow off tonight’s debate in Vernon?
She keeps asking “Where’s Joe Courtney?”
Where in the heck is Daria?
48This is very dishearting to read all your statements. This is the first campaign in all my years – you have decided to attack a campaign staff person. Wow are we really trying to grasp at the straws. The issue is – who is the better candidate – apparently some of you are going for Ms Harvey’s throat which tends to make be understand she is threatening to all of you who have trashed her. When did a campaign staffer ever get involved with these petty comments. If Ms Harvey is so screwed up – as you all have stated – why was she the Republican Chair Woman of her community? – she still holds a seat as the Vice Chairwoman (did you know that) – why is she State Central Committe Rep? – have you read about her article raising money for the Ct State Police Canine Unit? -it is my understanding she is a hard working woman and a great woman. Grow up – stop this ! Stick with the issue of who will be the better candidate.
49As far as I can tell there are no attacks on campaign staff here.
I posted an entry that said: “The Harvey/Dubitsky act reeks of desperation. This sort of “anything” goes attitude has the potential of hurting both candidates and as such serves no truly useful purpose. Speaking with several people tonight, Doug lost more on this act than Daria.”
I entered this because I was told she instigated this attack plan. I was also told Doug wasn’t 100% behind it, nor were his supporters. Since I didn’t hear this first hand from either the candidate or Ms. Harvey I sent them an email with my opinion of the matter. I sent that email a couple of days ago but have not heard back from the campaign.
I was told Ms. Harvey is the campaign manager. If she isn’t, that’s my bad. If she is, I stand by my original opinion (which by the way I also emailed to the campaign) the “press release” reeks of desperation.
In my quick review of this blog, I didn’t find any instance of anyone attacking any campaign staff, nor did I find petty comments, implying that they’re as you say “screwed up”, or anyone going for anyone’s throat.
Why would anyone feel threatened by Ms. Harvey anyway?
I think you are reading WAY too much into this. Why would anyone devote so much attention to a campaign manager? The candidate is carrying the full load of responsibility here, and you know my opinion of that. If the campaign manager came up with this mud slinging plan or agreed with it I personally think he or she deserves a small share of the blame too.
Ms. Harvey probably has much thicker skin that you seem to think. I would guess that a campaign related message with an opinion that the campaign did something wrong or was going off course would not cause much of a problem for her or anyone else for that matter.
You are right though….. STICK WITH THE TRUE ISSUES, not interpretations of what a letter means, or he said she said complaint about how many cows a person has.
Rich….. a boat I was on earned a P.U.C. can I use that in my next campaign
I’ll have to be careful and pull out the award letter to see who was President when we were awarded it…… and NO it wasn’t George Washington or John Adams and Noah was not a Seaman!
