Gun Owners: All Hands on Deck

February 12, 2010 By: Dan Category: Uncategorized

This is from our friends at CCDL -

ALERT! Long Gun Registration Bill H5158 Public Hearing Thurs February 18 Hartford!

www.cga.ct.gov/2010/TOB/H/2010HB-05158-R00-HB.htm Section 10 of the bill “An Act Concerning the Regulation of Firearms” includes the registration of LONG GUNS just like handguns! More to follow soon!

There are other aspects of this bill we are opposed to including preapproval and notification of BOTH the local chief of police AND the State Police before allowing a GUN SHOW CALL the Public Safety Committee at 860-240-0570 to oppose this bill! Tell the clerk there is NO PUBLIC SAFETY VALUE in spending money and time on State Police to create and maintain a Long Gun Registration database that is possibly illegal under federal law!

Why are we not allocating OUR TAX DOLLARS and State Police manpower to arrest ANY of the thousands of criminals on CT streets who have outstanding warrants? Remember: Please be POLITE and cordial in your tone of voice over the phone, but be brief and get the point across and say “thank you” at the end of the call.

Contact me directly for tips on attending and/or testifying at the Public Hearing at legislative@ccdl.us Address of Public Safety & Security Committee: Public Safety and Security Committee Legislative Office Building Room 3600 300 Capitol Avenue Hartford, CT 06106 Phone: 860-240-0570 Thursday, Feb 18th 11:00am Sign Up done by 9:00am!

Carry On!

  1. John,

Right on with the common ground. I will also agree that as of this point, there are too many guns – right now that is. And I have meant to keep it that way for a very long time. Fortunately, myself and others have succeeded. But you have to understand that in the US, the approach has to be incremental for those who wish to take freedom. On our end, it the response has to be vigilant, decisive, and committed to the whole package of the Bill of Rights – no strings attached.

Many comments on this and other bills, from legislators mind you, specifically voiced a concern about a slippery slope. For the other end of the spectrum, now and as it’s always been, this is really about gauging what they can get away with. For this reason, my approach will be removing restrictions. It’s been a lifetime since actually reducing restrictions on liberty was on the table. The time is right and the need to push forward with that is present. The pendulum just swung too far for too long.

There is NO WAY to find “common ground” with A) People who would do this, B) People that would complacently ALLOW this by not fighting against it or C) People that actually support those that would do it: http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2010/02/025646.php It’s not a joke, and I’m not laughing. Not that Argentina did it by the skillful use of propaganda. What have I been warning against for decades now?

  3. Nick,

That may be true to some extent. However, I have heard of this plan, expect both major parties to support it, and write themselves a one way ticket to political suicide in doing so. I also anticipate that the impetus for gearing this up will be a market event, probably one similar to the Fed yanking $125 billion from the banking system in order to get TARP passed.

So in the end, you’ll have the left and the right unifying in an attack against everyone else. As the saying goes, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

Dan: This – I have had the pleasure of sharing with others for many, many years. I believe it is the definitve essay on the subject of guns, as well as as being a beacon of light on the flawed thinking far too many people exhibit. Published 17-years ago, it has actually been used successfully to defend a client in court. It’s entitled “A Nation of Cowards.” I think you’ll find other uses for the document. http://jim.com/cowards.htm

In response to this most recent threat to our rights…. I purchased a shotgun. I’ll also be heading over to the police barracks to complete my fingerprinting for a concealed handgun permit.

  6. 12g or 20g Ray? Good home defense weapon as well. If you need a gun lock, I have 3 extras just to be safe :)

  7. My next purchase will probably be a shotgun. They’re great for home defense. Ideally, everyone should own a pistol, a shotgun and a rifle – and make immediate plans to bring all recent purchases to a range. Become intimately familiar with what you buy.

While a lot of people may knock the SKS as an option for a rifle, it’s easy to disassemble, it can withstand neglect, and the price is right. I say that especially for those tight on money. A gun is better than no gun. But you have to bear in mind that all things Kalashnikov are designed for a minimum of two or three illiterate potato farmers per rifle.

For the price and maintenence, I’d argue that the AR-15 is an over-rated, over-powered pea shooter; but you can accessorize the snot out of an AR-15. It’s a lot louder than it’s recoil.

If you’re into reloading, the Mossin Nagant is fairly inexpensive and a lot of fun, that is if you like long range artillery pieces. The same is true of the 8mm Mauser. The recoil is frightening if you’re not used to it.

If anyone reading this has never fired a gun (pistol or rifle), I’d recommend a .22. The ammunition is cheap ($20 for 500 rounds), and it will help familiarize the user with safety, breath control, and the fundamentals of proper shooting.

  8. There are many people in America that believe the Liberal Myth that, because we are a “Most Civilized Society”, with a “Centralized Society” so firmly in “Control” , that there no longer needs to be A RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS. Well, you are no soothsayer, and history supports my belief that “Civilization” will CRUMBLE faster, and more unexpectedly than you think, at THE DROP OF A HAT. I have personally witnessed it. Actually, if you ever read the news over the past few decades, you did too. (You just didn’t know it, or brushed it aside as “Something that happens over there”). You must have been sleeping on 9/11. Well, here’s a Wake-Up CALL. Chile is a most advanced country. It got rocked by an earthquake. (Didn’t see that coming, did they?). Read your liberal Norwich Bulletin News. See where THE PEOPLE and THE SHOPKEEPERS are stopping looting by BEARING ARMS? Can’t happen here, right? Wrong. Dead wrong. Could happen in a heartbeat. WILL HAPPEN IN A HEARTBEAT. I guarantee you that it will. Someday. Sometime. I have history on my side. By the way, West Point teaches EVERY SINGLE OFFICER THAT RECEIVES A CONGRESSIONAL COMMISSION that IT WILL HAPPEN, and ORDERS EVERY SINGLE OFFICER to “Defend the Nation and defend it’s lawful citizens against attack be it from within or by enemies beyond our borders taking advantage of a compromised Government.” That’s in my papers, and I took an oath on it. Did you know that an Officer who received a Commission granted by Congress NEVER CAN FAIL to (quote) “Take arms against enemies of The State” if ordered to do so by the CIC? (That’s Obama, now). That’s something you really need to consider when voting, because it’s clear many people don’t have a clue as to what they’re voting for. Fast fact: There are over 1,600,000 living American citizens that have received A CONGRESSIONAL OFFICERS COMMISSION. Who’s looking out for you? It ain’t the liberal left. THINK ABOUT IT. (When the New Madrid Fault splits or a nuke goes off in D.C.). And yes, a shotgun protects a perimeter of about 30-yards, and a 30/30 will keep the intruder hunkered down for as long as you can stay awake from 200 yards, and a 50 cal Dragoon will pick off their leader from a mile away). I’ve done the latter. (estimated at 6050 feet).

  9. AN ARMY OF MARIAS: http://apnews.myway.com/article/20100303/D9E79BNO2.html

TO “QUOTETH” : “These and hundreds of other survivors of Chile’s devastating earthquake have organized neighborhood watch groups, arming themselves and barricading streets to protect their damaged homes from looters. The groups have stepped in as police were overwhelmed by looting and soldiers were slow to restore order after an earthquake and tsunami.

“We take care of ourselves here,” said 51-year-old Maria Cortes. . . . Throughout the quake zone, survivors lived in fear and fed on rumors of roving mobs. Gunfire punctuated the night in Concepcion, Lota and other towns.

The eruption of banditry shocked the nation (THAT’s SHOCKED THE NATION) and put President Michelle Bachelet on the defensive. Chile’s much-praised urban rescue teams were hampered by slow-to-arrive equipment – and the looting of their local base in Concepcion.”

    >>>Almost everywhere, citizens have banded together to eat, get water and protect damaged or destroyed homes.

This is why Americans have guns. And why getting to know your neighbors is an important part of disaster preparation. Despite what “The Liberal Elite” say or think.
