I have been traveling around Eastern CT attending meetings, speaking and listening to the concerns of the voters of the 2nd District. What you have to say is important to me as you will be my bosses when I go to Washington, DC next year. Please continue to stay in touch, hold me accountable, and let me know your ideas of what you want your representative to do in Congress (or not do!). I will be speaking next Monday afternoon, March 1, at 4 pm at UConn. Then in the evening I will speak to the Canterbury RTC. I will not stop working hard for you, but I need you to actively participate in the process so that the change you get is a good one. My web site is http://www.novakforcongress.com Please take a look and say hello.
I’m running as the Libertarian candidate. I have and will continue to address all the issues presented in the greatest detail possible within the parameters of the Constitution. My website offers comprehensive position statements, a sworn statement of what I’ll do in office, a free e-book, and in depth proposals to solve and prevent the problems we’re facing. Before I take office, my goal is to be the most accessible candidate and do everything I can to fight for the Constitution before I’m elected.
Chaplin, CT – Doug Dubitsky, Republican Candidate for Congress in Connecticut’s 2nd Congressional District, issued this statement today regarding the Democratic Majority’s inability to pass a Budget Resolution for 2011:
House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer’s announcement that Congress will not vote on a 2011 budget resolution virtually guarantees that the Obama Administration’s out of control spending will continue unabated.
“Anyone concerned with the Government’s rampant overspending should be alarmed that Congress is abrogating its most basic duty to pass a budget and set spending limits for 2011 appropriations,” Dubitsky said.
But the Democrats’ refusal to vote on a budget resolution has even deeper fiscal implications. Without budgetary spending limits, the Obama Administration is likely to seek further so-called “stimulus” spending. Even worse, the longer the Democrats refuse to pass a budget resolution and the more debt the Obama administration racks up, the more likely the President’s “Bipartisan Fiscal Commission” is to call for forcing the European-style value added tax (VAT) down the throats of our already over-taxed people.
Joe Courtney is openly enabling the Obama Administration’s rush to spend as much as it can, as fast as it can. Joe Courtney has voted 97.9% of the time with Speaker Nancy Pelosi, voted to massively increase the amount of money the government will borrow, and has voted to increase deficit spending five times as high as it was only three years ago. Joe’s votes have enabled the federal government to borrow 42 cents of every dollar it spends.
This spending frenzy is unsustainable. But just as Joe Courtney refused to listen when the 2nd District rallied against Obamacare, he is deaf to his own constituents’ cries to set firm limits on federal spending. He takes his marching orders from Nancy Pelosi, not from the people of the 2nd District. She can’t pass another “stimulus” bill or a VAT tax without Joe Courtney’s vote.
Dubitsky urges Joe Courtney and the Democrats in Congress to vote on a budget resolution and set real limits on 2011 appropriations. “Without a budget resolution, the Administration’s massive deficit spending will only increase leading into the November elections,” he cautioned.
The coming elections are critical to the future of the nation. Unlike Nancy Pelosi, Joe Courtney, and the Obama White House, Dubitsky opposes raising our national debt ceiling, opposes the VAT tax, and opposes Obama’s reckless spending spree. “I support limiting deficit spending, reducing taxes to encourage growth, and restoring fiscal responsibility to the federal government. I will fight for individual freedom and limited constitutional government,” Dubitsky said.
On November 2nd, JOE MUST GO!
Paid for by Doug Dubitsky for Congress, Andrew Rosenberg, Treasurer

All I can say is that Mr. Courtney will win in November. As for his not listening to the the rallying second district, I attended a “town meeting” last August and Mr. Courtney was very attentive. However a few members of the audience insisted on yelling and making assertions not asking questions. If not listening means being drowned out by a handful of discourteous louts, well you might get their votes, that should boost your ego. Good Luck
Your post just came through the email and I only have a few minutes, but you raise valid points about some that do scream and attempt to drown people out – it happens with Democrats too. While I’ll agree that Courtney is attentive, the problem is that he’s wrong.
The other problem is that the CT GOP and its candidates, with very few exceptions, choose to complain about what Courtney’s doing (which is identical to what Republicans did before they lost the house) without owning their party’s mistakes.
They have exactly six hours left to win this election. I have practically said, “Hold still so we can put you in Congress.” If a GOP hopeful would sign on the dotted line under penalty of perjury to do things that would restore the Constitution, my job would be done. Myself and my family would be all the happier for it.
Otherwise, the party division with Peckinpaugh is fatal. In the likely event she wins the primary, she’s lucky to clear 15%.
No takers, Mooseman. You’d think this would be a no-brainer. You’d also think that those harping on the conventional wisdom of close races would clearly see the value in this.
Dan How are you going to enforce just the 1st 3? They ain’t listen Dan. I think it was Ray or Paul who said quite a while back that you need to start small and work ur way up. Your endorsement means nothing to these people. Who the hell is Dan Reale? Don’t shoot the messenger but I agree with those who warned you to start at the local level! Your premise is great but the lack of enforcement and from a Libertarian that comes out of PLFD CT and never held an office means “circular file” Just my initial gut opinion.
Good points John, but you need to remember that if we’re adhering to conventional wisdom, Courtney was elected by 83 votes and other margins were razor thin. If your name happened to be Ed Munster and you just happened to be working for someone named Peckinpaugh, you’d know the deal on this. It’s what little they know for a fact that I can do that counts, not the endorsement.
Voters are also less fickle these days in terms of a familiar face. That works fine if we take the time machine back to 2000-2006, but a lot more of them really want something more than a familiar face to explain why healthcare, food, energy and other costs have put them in the poorhouse. If you’ve been out of work for more than a year and the financial situation has been as unkind as it is, you’re looking for a really good explaination.
As much as we hate to admit this, hungry stomachs motivate people to look for meaningful answers. And when previous answers don’t pan out, they start to look elsewhere out of necessity. On the Courtney end of the spectrum, they already know (absent the Dairy Farmers), that there’s no payout.
Either way and at the very least, I’m not about to let someone pull a Scott Brown and repeat what Courtney did.
“Daria Novak, who was endorsed by the state Republican Party during its May convention, did not plan to participate in the debate.”
Among many other things, the Republican Party is making just enough mistakes to get less than 20% in the general election. Unless there’s a personal emergency involved in this situation, it’s a done deal.
Oh and yes they are still fickle. They need a leader that can lead! They like a pretty face and a machine behind helps. Have you ever run for local office? No. Been in it for too many years, don’t believe I saw you as a candidate. You got to get crackin.
Be like me running for Prez. My only experience is P+Z, ethics, tax assessment board, helping local candidates etc etc. I ain’t pretty and have no machine. Opinions and gut feelings will just about buy ya a coffee. Your either a Dem or a GOP. Unless you can Shock the shit outa people and come from nowhere in a hurry you are doomed. I don’t see you door to door , I see no ads, phone calls, etc etc. Ya just got to get your name and position recognized. having a good support staff helps but ya need an angle. It can be done but I still think you need to start a serious grass roots effort if you want any chance with the big dogs. Cunningham 05 of course Gladding was not to hard to beat but we did it with 5-6-7 people. Against the DTC folks that got gladding 814 write ins!!! I know your in a hurry to fix things, but one step at a time. And going against the Big Dogs all at once takes big balls and big money! I believe you have the balls but no $$$.
I do however like your persistence in calling out each party to STATE exactly what they are going to do. Alright one credit. door to door another. Speaking at large assemblies another. Ads another. you get my drift? I just see you here or at the BOE meeting, Good but the ruler HMMM!
I frankly don’t know where you been to promote yourself other than the Commitment letter to sign and opinions on FN. Start small and start right now. “As you said people are looking for alternatives.”
They don’t know Dan Reale right now but next cycle if you play your cards right they will!
Hey Rich I’m ramblin can I get my own page like Nick? Though he has been MIA since I hijacked his thread LOL Nick You with us buddy or is everyone the enemy? You OK Nick? hehe
You’re only going to see me occasionally around here because it’s a big district, and SE CT is key to that. Otherwise, my policy is that if people ask and it’s not scheduled, I go.
And I’m elsewhere. For example, try the Clinton Bluefish Festival tommorow night.
The grassroots is happening fast – you’d be amazed at what the expiration of that offer did. That proved the point among the people the GOP needs the most.
Otherwise, the attention is on the primary for everyone else. I’m already positioned for the winner.
And her reason for not participating is………..? Just one link. She gave no reason?
Your at the Bluefish festival? A speaker? Is it taped? what are ur plans with the tape if it is? Just a hoedown sort of thing? I’m in PLFD Dan until this FN stuff I never heard of you. What other events have you attended? Have you gone door to door in large suburban communities? Or “specific” local areas? Large district, so you’ll be doing what the rest do?? Forget PLFD and it’s Neighbors and concentrate on mass voter appeal at gatherings where we (politicians WAIT I”m not thank god), are a side show? Good move BUT!!!!! If that’s the plan OK, but ya better get down to the homes at least some of them strategically?
I WILL check what the results are of ur exp date. Any links to save me time? Whats the response. Google is easy but if you have done the homework????
Otherwise, you just have to make sure you’re dividing your time among this area, SE CT, staying current with the lates comming out of Congress, answering questions in between and earning a living. The large community effort has to be centered around events.
And I have made time for door-to-door in places most would consider the sticks – on foot. That makes a big impression.
Overall, this is why I have better name recognition than those who were in the race pre-Peckinpaugh. And I was certain to not make this typical libertarian mistake of limiting efforts to libertarians.
Absent status as a news anchor, former officholder, ect, unless you spent more than $200K, it’s really a question of how long you’ve been at it.
And even Peckinpaugh has problems.
I’ve been at this the longest. Waiting for it to become convenient is not an option unless you have McMahon’s cash. And the so called best the GOP has to offer gives up and quits when things don’t go their way immediately or with ease. More unfortunately, the collective mind has this habit of encouraging those who are truly the best to bow their heads in shame to mediocrity.
Oh my indeed. It’s not this excellent set of circumstances we have (national concerns included).
If life gives you a car, you drive. If all you have is a pair of feet and $0.50 to your name, then start walking.
Make sure when you are there campaigning you make it clear to cut off all grants to everyone. That is your stance and make sure it is heard loud and clear. Does YOUR MASSIVE CUTTING PLAN include subsidies to farmers as well??? I mean they are a business. I can’t wait for this one…. You are such a tool
Yes, that’s correct. No grants/earmarks on my part. I’m not applying for them and I’m voting against them.
That includes farmers. It’s kind of ridiculous to subsidize agriculture, which raises the price of food, in a country where 30 million are food insecure. And there are a whole series of quality issues related to how we overproduce and tamper with food directly related to agricultural subsidies. Of course, there are a lot of serious environmental issues tied into this, but that’s a story for another day.
What I’m aiming for is a situation where the district keeps its money instead of begging for sixty cents of every dollar it sends. Put simply, if you need a grant from the feds, the feds have taken too much money and/or you’re asking for something that shouldn’t be done in the first place.
The Medicare/Social Security situation ($99.1 trillion in liabilities) as well as the world policing situation ($1trillion+ per year, which does not include what you’d call national defense) says that the situation is fiscally out of hand and needs to be treated as such.
If we’re serious about getting our fiscal house in order, we’ll all do our part and stop holding our hands out.
Ray,
I didn’t take a poll – it’s hard enough finding a good company that does truly representative or scientific work. Political polls within the context of campaigns are tools to validate a preconcieved notion. There’s more here on the scientific end to discuss if you’re interested.
Ray,
Also nice try at the jab about grants. I am sure your constituents are happy. How many more grants will Canterbury take on?? You guys sure do take in alot for a BOF person who is against them. You took them when you were on the BOE too.
The BOF doesn’t “take on” grants. The BOF creates line items for the use of the grants after the town approves them.
The BOE for the most part uses grants to ensure we were able to meet federal and state otherwise unfunded mandates and to ensure the educational needs of the students are met. These grants are not directly approved by the town.
SO Scott, are you for giving tax payer money to businesses who by business plan or economy of scale cannot and will not ever be able to stand on their own two feet?
I think price restrictions should be lifted and the federal and state government should stop trying to run private businesses. If that were the case, the subsidies would probably not be necessary now would they?
In other words, get out of the farmers way and let them run their businesses as any other should be able to be run. Let’s see what happens then.
I’m sure my constituents are in the most part completely disinterested in my personal vote on the subject of some grants and other issues at town meeting. I’m just as sure of that as I am that they are happy to be without the additional government intrusion in their lives the grants and commissions would have presented. Especially since they would have been nothing more than “feel good” measures (as stated by their proponents at the town meeting).
No idea what “jab” you’re talking about. But I’m sure if you took the time to comment about it, it must have hit home or you would have ignored it like you seem to do with most other questions you don’t like.
That’s funny you said that because I really am disinterested in what you think about negoiations going on between Plainfield Little League and the Town of Plainfield. You don’t have a say now do you????
What intrusion happens when you take on a grant Ray???
I think it’s amazing what site you choose to use to find this data in your battle “for” subsidies !!!!!!! Have someone read that site to you Scott, I think it might help you understand.
Let’s look at the stats for the state, I think they are more important and better show what the problem is:
The top 10% of farms in CT receive and average of $21,273 per year, the bottom 20% $865. 93% of farmers in CT don’t collect subsidies at all. The top 10% collect over 61% of all subsidies.
Do you know there is a sheep meat subsidy? Hmmmm sounds like tax money put to good use to me.
The site you used for your hyperlink says this “Washington paid out a quarter of a trillion dollars in federal farm subsidies between 1995 and 2009, but to characterize the programs as either a “big government” bailout or another form of welfare would be manifestly unfair – to bailouts and welfare. ” Furthermore they state “Finally, while this corporate giveaway has gone on unabated, conservation continues to be shortchanged.”
Democrats will spout open space, conservation and the “rural small town appeal” from the treetops, but the facts are the facts now aren’t they.
More from the site if you need it: “Even after the bitterly contested new health insurance reforms eventually take effect, most crops could fairly be said to have better coverage than many people in this country–and it’s single-payer coverage, at that (the single payer, taxpayer, being you). Taxpayer subsidized crop insurance is available to farmers if their crop is eligible for coverage in their area and provides, at no cost, 50 percent catastrophic coverage to farmers. ”
In closing, I don’t know anything about Tyler Brothers Farms to include why they received their subsidy, their business plan, their market viability or anything else about them. I will however say I believe the best subsidy for a farmer would be to get out of their way, and let them farm without interference from the state or federal government. Let the market drive their viability and profit margins instead fueling them or propping them up with tax dollars. Remove the restrictions, allow the market price of their goods be driven by the market.
Scott, if you have to ask what intrusion takes place when you “take on” a grant you obviously wouldn’t understand the answer.
It’s obvious in every grant I’ve seen. As an all so important side note taking from many for the benefit of the few (or the hand picked) to gain political favor among that constituency kinda jumps right out there to me.
Lastly, not because I don’t enjoy helping you understand why Big Government is bad but because I have schoolwork to do……the issue of the Little League is that of BIG GOVERNMENT grants going to a private organization for the benefit of small group of people. You being disinterested in my feelings regarding that use of public funding is indicative of your entitlement attitude.
I think low interest bridge loans for businesses are just one way to help in cases where the businesses present a good business model, or are in need of large capitol purchases that will benefit their communities in tangible ways. They are but one reasonable way to help the business community. Your plan (at least what I’ve seen of it) doesn’t fit either category.
Ray you said, “the issue of the Little League is that of BIG GOVERNMENT grants going to a private organization for the benefit of small group of people.”
I say, since the town will now own the land, and grants will go to the town for improvements for what I consider NOT a small group of people, then I see that there is no problem with this proposal.
I guess the townspeople will have the last say when its voted upon by Plainfield residents.
I hope to hear of a clarification from Dan on “stealing”….. oh please Dan, please tell us all the statutes on this one…..because I have a very different take on “stealing”.
As I said before Kevin, one way or the other. We can’t have a conversation about an issue that involves private or public ownership if you keep switching it back and forth. You say public, Scott say private. Please make up your collective minds and let’s keep our conversation centered around that scenario.
As for the “stealing” question…… I’m very careful around that term. Even if you’re using the term as a analogy, some can be very sensitive about that terms usage so I’d recommend tying “I feel it’s like ……” unless you mean it in the most literal of translations. I may be hard headed but I do learn my lessons well.
I hate this keyboard….. it makes so many errors …. let’s see….. Scott “says” not say. trying not tying….. geesh……. where’s that grammar and spell checker when you need it….. Barry can you help?
N gOTCHA ON THE KEYBOARD THING. dAMN GRNDKIDS AND “I DIDN’T HAVE SODA NEAR THE KEYBOARD POP” is BS!!!!! rIGHT. tHATS WHY IM WIPING ALL THIS STICKY SHIT FROM MY KEYBOARD AND DESK!!!!!
THE TOWN DOES NOT OWN THE LAND!!! The Leauge is requesting that the town take it over! I have always BEen leary of Gonvt taking over anything, but if someone request that they do, they should not be vilified for that request. Ya don’t ask ya dont get. We all have differing opinions on that.
One thing we canall agree on is keeping the kids and soda away from the GD PUTER!!!! BTW because there are spelling and grammar errors no big deal we all do it. I can read. Though a spell checker would here would be nice. WhoTHeck is Barry

12John,
While I’m thinking of it, you also have to consider this –
http://www.theday.com/article/20100722/NWS01/307229353/-1/nws
“Daria Novak, who was endorsed by the state Republican Party during its May convention, did not plan to participate in the debate.”

13“Puzzled. Say again? Are you saying you have more pull/power/influence than they realize?”
Let’s suppose that Peckinpaugh (who will win the nomination based on horrible miscalculations), she’s done.
I should also mention that none one of the GOP hopefuls attended Sailfest. If you’re running in eastern CT, you go to that.
14Oh and yes they are still fickle. They need a leader that can lead! They like a pretty face and a machine behind helps. Have you ever run for local office? No. Been in it for too many years, don’t believe I saw you as a candidate. You got to get crackin.

I WILL check what the results are of ur exp date. Any links to save me time? Whats the response. Google is easy but if you have done the homework????
17See your email.
18“And her reason for not participating is………..? Just one link. She gave no reason?”
Yes. It’s a mystery to us both. Out of all the things that happened this cycle, it’s the only one that truly surprised me.
19Are you kidding me Dan….. you say you have better name recognition than Daria? Oh, my!
20Absent status as a news anchor, former officholder, ect, unless you spent more than $200K, it’s really a question of how long you’ve been at it.
21Do you have the endorsement of your party?
22The original question was:
Are you kidding me Dan….. you say you have better name recognition than Daria? How are you polling?
23Dan,
Make sure when you are there campaigning you make it clear to cut off all grants to everyone. That is your stance and make sure it is heard loud and clear. Does YOUR MASSIVE CUTTING PLAN include subsidies to farmers as well??? I mean they are a business. I can’t wait for this one…. You are such a tool
24Scott,
Yes, that’s correct.
I also have the endorsement of my party.
25Uummmm Dan….how many other Libertarians were running against you at your ‘convention’ ?
26Dan,
I agree with you on your statement about grants. VERY well said!
27SO Ray you are against farm subsidies too???
28Ray,
29Also nice try at the jab about grants.
30I’m sure my constituents are in the most part completely disinterested in my personal vote on the subject of some grants and other issues at town meeting.
31That’s funny you said that because I really am disinterested in what you think about negoiations going on between Plainfield Little League and the Town of Plainfield. You don’t have a say now do you????
What intrusion happens when you take on a grant Ray???
32Ray,
Have you told Tyler Brothers Farms of Canterbury your feelings on farm Subsidies???? That might be interested in your point o view on the subject,
http://farm.ewg.org/persondetail.php?custnumber=000229012
33I think it’s amazing what site you choose to use to find this data in your battle “for” subsidies !!!!!!!
34Scott, if you have to ask what intrusion takes place when you “take on” a grant you obviously wouldn’t understand the answer.
It’s obvious in every grant I’ve seen. As an all so important side note taking from many for the benefit of the few (or the hand picked) to gain political favor among that constituency kinda jumps right out there to me.
35Lastly, not because I don’t enjoy helping you understand why Big Government is bad but because I have schoolwork to do……the issue of the Little League is that of BIG GOVERNMENT grants going to a private organization for the benefit of small group of people.
36Ray you said, “the issue of the Little League is that of BIG GOVERNMENT grants going to a private organization for the benefit of small group of people.”
37As I said before Kevin, one way or the other.
38I hate this keyboard….. it makes so many errors
…. let’s see….. Scott “says” not say. trying not tying….. geesh……. where’s that grammar and spell checker when you need it….. Barry can you help?
39THE TOWN DOES NOT OWN THE GD LAND!!!

42When is the deadline for turning in petions to be placed on the ballot? Dan did you make it?
43The deadline is 4PM today… what happens now all depends on how many are rejected.
44Why did you wait so long?
