Sun columnist Jon Ralston is reporting that the Tea Party has qualified as a third party in Nevada and will have a candidate in the Senate race to battle for the seat held by Majority Leader Harry Reid. http://www.lasvegassun.com/news/2010/feb/13/report-tea-party-field-candidate-battle-harry-reid/ (JUST A SHILL for the Republicans, Scott says. NOT a viable or real 3rd Party, Scott says. How’s that Crow taste, Scott?)
I went to the Freedom Concert in NJ this weekend and I have to tell you it was really nice to be in an arena with several thousand like minded individuals. If you haven’t heard of the concert tour, here’s what it’s all about:
Since 2003, over $10 million has been raised for the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund through the Freedom Concerts and generous donations from the Sean Hannity Show and its listeners. The Scholarship Fund is designated for the education of children of U.S. service members who have been killed or 100% permanently disabled in an operational mission or training accident. Freedom Alliance receives all net proceeds from ticket sales and merchandise, aiding greatly in Freedom Alliance’s effort to assist hundreds of families who have lost their loved ones while they were protecting and defending our nation and our freedoms.
One of the songs I heard that night really hit home. Here are the lyrics:
“That Ain’t My America”
LYNYRD SKYNYRD
From the Album – “God & Guns” (2009)
(Johnny Van Zant, Gary Rossington, Rickey Medlocke, Brett Warren)
Sometimes I wanna light up underneath the no-smoking sign
Sometimes I wish they’d tell me, how justice got so blind
I wish they’d just leave me alone ’cause I’m doing alright
You can take your change on down the road and leave me here with mine
‘Cause that ain’t my America
That aint this country’s roots
You wanna slam old Uncle Sam
But I ain’t letting you
I’m mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue
That ain’t us
That Ain’t My America
I was standing there in Dallas
Waitin on a plane
I overheard an old man
Tell a young soldier “thanks”
The young soldier hung his head and said “it’s hard to believe
You’re the only one who took the time to say a word to me”
And the old man said…
That ain’t my America
That aint this country’s roots
You wanna slam old Uncle Sam
But I ain’t letting you
I’m mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue
That ain’t us
That Ain’t My America
It’s to the women and men who in their hands hold a Bible and a gun
And they ain’t afraid of nothing, when when they’re holding either one
Now there’s kids who can’t pray in school
$100 dollar tanks of gas
I can tell you right now this country ain’t
AIN’T SUPPOSED TO BE LIKE THAT!
NO!
‘Cause that ain’t my America
That aint this country’s roots
You wanna slam old Uncle Sam
But I ain’t letting you
I’m mad as hell and you know I still bleed Red, White, and Blue
That ain’t us
That Ain’t My
That Ain’t My America
That Ain’t My America
That Ain’t My America
I think many of us feel this way and if you do, please think long and hard about how you vote on the 10th of August in the primaries and in November when you actually elect those who are supposed to represent you. It’s time for us to quit worrying about what’s politically correct and what’s not. That “ain’t” what made this country what it is today! We have nothing to apologize about and we need to stand up for what makes this country great or or children will inherit a weak and honor-less country!
I think it’s time for all of us to stand up and tell our elected officials what’s been going on “ain’t OUR America” !!!!!!
Whether people like to admit it or not, Simmons helped build the mess we’re in. That’s a fact.
McMahon has yet to present any position with an in-depth explaination. That’s a fact too.
Schiff’s the only logical choice. He’s been working against the problems caused by those violating the Constitution a lot more and a lot sooner than McMahon or Simmons. And they key to that is not donating to Democrats or voting like them in a greater net sense of the understanding, which effectively serves to cancel out any good you may have done. That’s not hard to see.
We no longer have the option of going along to get along. The federal government needs to shrink along with taxation level, and dramatically, before the hand is forced. If the hand is forced, we can try to justify handouts, earmarks, policing the world and a welfare state all we’d like – but all those points become moot without the ability to sustain them.
Other moot points include –
- Complaints about unsecured borders when we support people more concerned about foriegn ones across the world.
- Complaints about high taxes when we support people for the sake of bringing home the bacon.
- Complaints about government funded abortion when we support people for the sake of social control.
- Complaints about not supporting the troops when we can’t be bothered to demand that Congress declare war, establish an objective, fight it, win it and be honest about what’s required to do all of the above.
- Complaints about bailouts as we routinely vote for people who attempt to do things by creating incentives in the tax code for economic or social activity.
Complaints as noted above led to the push for Scott Brown, and that certainly was a moot point. The fact is that the tea party was burned on this one – say what you will about “liberal” Massachussetts. You either want something or you don’t. You certainly won’t get the Constitution by compromising on it. This farce of the miracle 41st vote has been disproven as complete bunk. And every GOP candidate who celebrated this fraud as some accomplishment should seriously consider turning over all their property to the government, which would at least be more honest and efficient.
If you’re a Republican, you should think long and hard about all of this – and logically. This is not a question of the WWE, how many cows someone owns, some letter, ect. The choice Republicans make on Tuesday will determine whether the CT GOP even exists or not in another two cycles. The same is true of the currency we use and the Constitution we are supposed to follow to a tee.
The question that Republicans and Democrats will answer on Tuesday is, “Will I be fooled for a 23rd time?”. They should answer that question very, very carefully. We don’t have the type of economy that supports a 25th time, Scott Brown clones could make the 24th time the final chance and every second in between is critical to reversing the damage. Again, say what you will about Coakley. Burning down the house to put out the fire is just plain stupid.
Overall, it’s time for Republicans to stop whining about Coakley as if it changes the fact that they were had – and big time. The GOP and the tea party bought the farm on this one. With Simmons and others, you are being asked to buy the farm all over again.
Think about it. Sleep on it. Vote on Tuesday – then type something if you must. But know that this Tuesday will prove whether or not the CT GOP has learned anything at all.
We won’t know until a week and a half from now. Bear in mind that the deadline was August 4th, the primary is today, and town clerks won’t be able to start validating signatures at least until the day after tommorrow (depending upon the voter turnout, which is pretty low).
What’s going to determine the answer to that question is how many signatures they disqualify.
Yes. It’s actually very slow and they’re not really prompt. I’m told by the CT General Statutes that the Secretary of State’s job is “full time”, but after submitting our nomination letter yesterday, our chair spotted her at the mall… at 2PM.
You might also want to check out the media page at http://www.realedealforcongress.com/Media.html. Updates on this and other things will be located there. We’re doing a little experiment to see where the pages end up, and we have copies this time.
Otherwise, you’re not the only one who was wondering if I was on the ballot. Others have asked that as in today, for the primary. I’ve already received email from people who tried to vote for me this far in advance.

1Nick,
I agree. And indeed it would be interesting to see how a number less than ten is in fact greater than ten.
This one I have to hear

5The vote Schiff not the big SPENDER Simmons
6Thanks for the thoughtful reflective post Scott. You certainly never disappoint me!
7BTW, I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t see Scott at a Freedom Concert. FREEBIRD !!!!!!
8Right. It’s time to toss political correctness.
